I am reading a little book called Word into Silence, a manual for Christian
meditation. I have been struck by many phrases, such as "to discover
our spirit we have to stay in silence and allow it to emerge from the darkness
in which it has been relegated… the silence is our pilgrimage and the mantra
is our way," and again: "It is better to be silent and sincere than to speak and
to be insincere." Now I believe that our mental capacity improves in a condition
of silence. We certainly think we are more self confident after having spoken;
but I prefer to stay and listen...
